The Founder
Annetraud Speidel
Annetraud Speidel founded El Santo in 1983 in the old town of Calpe — driven by a passion for great food, real fire and the Mediterranean way of life. What began as a small family restaurant grew over the decades into one of the best-known restaurants on the Costa Blanca. Her spirit, her values and her cuisine live on to this day in every dish.
The Owner
Leon Speidel
Leon Speidel, grandson of Annetraud Speidel, took over El Santo from his grandmother in 2021. After years of professional experience in Switzerland and Germany, he took the bold step of emigrating to Spain — to carry on his family's legacy and lead El Santo into the future.
The Beginning
In the narrow lanes of the old town of Calpe, El Santo is founded — a small family restaurant with a real wood-fire grill and the dream of bringing authentic cuisine to the Costa Blanca.
The Pizzeria
The family expands the offer with its own pizzeria. Handmade doughs, fresh ingredients and a traditional oven make El Santo the double legend of Calpe.
The Terrace
The beautiful outdoor terrace in the heart of the Casco Antiguo opens — surrounded by historic stone walls and the charm of the Mediterranean old town.
